Trimming Fitting:

SUPERFEET FOOTWEAR SIZING GUIDE

There is no industry standard for footwear sizes. For example, a size 8 by one footwear manufacturer might be different from a size 8 produced by another. That’s why Superfeet makes full-length insoles in size ranges (typically spanning 1½ sizes) to handle the variations. You may need to trim your insoles to fit in your footwear.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A PROPER FIT:

  • Check if your heel fits inside the heel cup, and not over the edge.
  • If the insole is too narrow, go up a letter-size.
  • If your toes extend beyond the end of the foam forefoot, go up a letter-size.

Feet that are new to Superfeet insoles may be surprised to feel the support towards the back of the arch at the front of the heel. That’s the distinct Superfeet shape doing its job – stabilizing the rearfoot. Give your feet time to adjust to the fit and feel of properly positioned, biomechanical support.

If this is your first pair of Superfeet insoles, we suggest you ease into the experience. Keep the original factory insoles until you’re accustomed to your Superfeet.

We recommend wearing the Superfeet for 1-2 hours the first day, 2-3 the next, and so on until your feet are accustomed to proper support all day long. The process may take a little time – in some instances, over a week. Please note the process should not be uncomfortable.

If you continue to experience discomfort after 2 weeks of wear, remove the Superfeet insoles from the footwear and contact the store where you purchased the Superfeet.

You can visit the Smartwall on superfeet.com, but for the best fit experience, we recommend you visit a local retail partner with the footwear you want to add Superfeet to.

GENERAL USE:

Most orthotics will conform to the heel in your footwear, and over time can wear through the lining. PLEASE NOTE: Superfeet offers no guarantee against the side effect of the insole wearing through the liner in footwear with waterproof liners such as Gore-Tex®.

Protect your waterproof liner

If you must use one of the Superfeet insoles that are not recommended to use with waterproof liners, DO NOT put the insoles in direct contact with the liner. You might use duct tape on the bottom of the stabiliser cap to act as a thin, protective lining, or insert a volume reducer between the insole and the inner liner of the boot or shoe.

Remove any sand, pebbles or other grit from underneath your insoles

No matter which insoles you choose, it is important to inspect the space between the insoles and the boots or shoes regularly. Make sure the contact between the insole and footwear is free of gravel, rocks or sand to avoid any premature wear.

The primary differences between the colors are the different biomechanical shapes and the materials used. A better way to differentiate between the insoles would be the Fit Profile, which helps describe the shape and thickness of each Superfeet insole.

Insole PROFILE: How the Superfeet support and shape feel under your feet.
LOW
Most-accommodating shape and support
MEDIUM
Intermediate shape and support
HIGH
Most shape and maximum support
Insole VOLUME: The space taken up by your foot with the insole inside the footwear.
LOW
For almost every type of footwear
MEDIUM
For casual and active styles of footwear
HIGH
For roomy shoes and boots

It really depends on weight, gait and use. On the average, our insoles last 300-500 miles for running shoes and every day wear, approximately 12 months of use. Consider the type and size of footwear and the job the Superfeet are doing. For instance, if you wear Superfeet and work on your feet all day, the Superfeet are going to see a lot more use than a pair of Superfeet you only wear in your shoes for an hour at the gym.

A good rule of thumb is to listen to your feet. When the Superfeet no longer feel like they are giving the same amount of support as when they were brand new, it might be a good time to consider a new pair and switch them out.

We do not recommend wearing DELUX Women’s Dress 3/4 insoles in high heel shoes. The Women’s Dress 3/4 was designed specifically for footwear with heels that are 1 inch or lower.

Yes. Be sure to take the Superfeet insoles with you when you buy new shoes so you don’t buy a shoe that is the wrong size and volume. Remember to remove any factory insoles (also called sock liners), if needed.

Yes. First make sure there will be enough room in the shoe to accept both the heel lift and the insole. Tape or glue the heel lift to the bottom of the insole.

We do not recommend wearing DELUX Women’s High Heels 3/4 insoles in low heel shoes. The High Heel 3/4 was designed specifically for footwear with heels that are 1 inch or higher.

Yes! merinoWHITE can be used in any boots or slippers, rain boots, or casual footwear that may be cozy, but may not be giving your feet the support they need. merinoWHITE can also add life to older footwear. Merino wool is naturally breathable and wicks moisture to stay fresh longer.

Not likely. The merinoWHITE insoles are medium-profile, medium-volume insoles, designed to lay flat in footwear. Most skates are tight fitting and designed with a ramped angle and an elevated heel. We designed our YELLOW insoles with an elevated heel to match the exact heel-to-toe profile of skates. They also feature a much thinner and narrower profile, so it works best in tight-fitting skates.

Not likely. The merinoGREY insoles are high-profile, high-volume insoles, designed to lay flat in footwear. Most skates are tight fitting and designed with a ramped angle and an elevated heel. We designed our YELLOW insoles with an elevated heel to match the exact heel-to-toe profile of skates. They also feature a much thinner and narrower profile, so it works best in tight-fitting skates.

Yes! COPPER insoles are built on the same stabilizer cap as our BLACK insoles, offering a strong but thin and flexible base to support the foot. The dynamic foam quickly adapts and molds to your foot shape, giving your feet a bit more cushion than our other products. And the friction-control nylon top cover allows your foot to move without creating excessive friction, reducing the risk of rubbing or blistering.

You could try it, but we do not recommend it. If using a GREEN doesn’t cause the shoe to fit too tightly against your foot, then test it out. Try wearing the GREEN insoles for an hour or two to find out if the fit is comfortable for your feet.

If the GREEN are not comfortable in footwear with factory insoles that cannot be removed, Superfeet has low-volume, low-profile insoles, like CARBON, BLACK, or the DELUX Dress-Fit 3/4 insoles that will likely fit better.

The wideGREEN heel and forefoot were designed for a true ‘wide foot,’ sized 3E to 6E. If you don’t wear 3E to 6E footwear, you probably don’t need to wear the wideGREEN. But if you do, all the wideGREEN biomechanical reference points necessary for stability, balance and motion are relative to the original GREEN design. You can visit your local Superfeet dealer for a professional shoe and insole fitting.

On average, Superfeet insoles last around 12 months or longer depending on the type and size of shoe, the working environment the shoe is worn in, type of activity, body weight, gait and foot type. Depending on these and other possible factors, wideGREEN may last the same amount of time as the regular GREEN, but it widely varies per person. As a general rule, if your insoles are not feeling as good as when they were new, it might be time to consider a new pair. Also, if you are replacing your shoes (for example, if you have been using them in a pair of running shoes), then it is not a bad idea to replace your Superfeet at the same time.

The BLUE has less shape under the foot than the GREEN, but will fit in more footwear. The structured heel cup and distinct shape provide intermediate support in a wider range of footwear, even some with factory insoles that won’t come out.

We didn’t just change the color of the ORANGE insole to make a women’s model, we engineered it to fit the biomechanical differences of a woman’s foot. BERRY features a shorter heel-to-ball length that corresponds more closely to the arch length of women’s feet for a specific fit. The narrower heel cup improves control and natural shock absorption. The BERRY stabilizer cap is adapted to fit the shape and size of women’s footwear so the insole rests easily in the heel. Because of its different shape and size, the BERRY heel cup is slightly shallower than the ORANGE.

The GREEN insoles are high-profile, high-volume insoles. They have the deepest and widest heel cup. The biomechanical shape offers maximum support. GREEN insoles are made with thicker foam. They take up more space and fit into roomier footwear.

The BLUE insoles are medium-profile, medium-volume insoles. They have less shape under the foot than the GREEN, but will fit in more footwear. The structured heel cup and distinct shape provide intermediate support in a wider range of footwear, even some with factory insoles that won’t come out.

Use your skate size for your skates, your footwear size for footwear. Generally skates are 1 size smaller.

The choice for best insole depends upon the type of cycling shoe it is going into. For tight-fitting commuter shoes and mountain biking shoes, CARBON, BLUE or BLACK insoles can provide the fit and biomechanical support you’re looking for. For road cycling shoes, YELLOW insoles feature a heel-to-toe profile that can help stabilize your foot and increase power transfer between your foot and the pedal.

No. Here’s how to bake your skates and fit your Superfeet:
1. Fit your Superfeet to your un-baked skates.
2. Take your Superfeet out of your skates.
3. Bake your skates.
4. Put your Superfeet back into the skates AFTER they’ve come out of the oven, but BEFORE you put your foot in.
5. Lace up.

The Superfeet YELLOW insoles are designed to fit the exact heel-to-toe profile of a hockey or figure skate with an elevated heel. This makes it an excellent fit in road cycling shoes as well. The Superfeet BLACK insoles are designed to sit flat with no heel elevation.

The YELLOW insoles are designed to fit the inside volume and profile of hockey and figure skates. Skates are very narrow in the heel and mid-foot section. The YELLOW stabilizer cap is designed specifically to fit it.

The CARBON helps add structure and stability to lightweight running shoes. We developed EVOLyte™ a new carbon fiber and blended polymer composite to create an extraordinarily thin and light stabilizer cap. You get the same legendary Superfeet support in a remarkably lightweight insole. CARBON’s thin profile and wider forefoot efficiently bridges the space between the foot and low-volume shoe to allow both to perform at a higher level.

Skates are very narrow in the heel and mid-foot section. The YELLOW’s slim design makes a good match. The YELLOW insoles feature a heel-to-toe profile that can help stabilize your foot and increase power transfer between your foot and the skate blade or pedal.

We didn’t just change the color of the REDhot to make a women’s model, we engineered it to fit the biomechanical differences of a woman’s foot. hotPINK features an arch length designed to better fit a woman’s foot. The narrower heel cup improves control and natural shock absorption. The hotPINK stabilizer cap is adapted to fit the shape and size of women’s footwear so the insole rests easily in the heel.

Both REDhot and hotPINK feature a top cover layer treated with Outlast® Adaptive Comfort® to absorb, store and release warmth when your feet need it. REDhot and hotPINK also both have a light-but-durable, insulating foil under the forefoot to deflect cold away from your toes, plus an open-cell thermal layer to trap warmth and add protection against the cold.

The thin, low-profile CARBON or BLACK insoles are ideal for tighter-fitting golf shoes. The low-profile stabilizer cap takes up a less space while providing basic support in a golf shoe.

If you want more support and wear a roomy, athletic-style golf shoe that has a removable factory insole, you might consider ORANGE, BERRY, BLUE or GREEN insoles.

They have the same biomechanical features as our ORANGE and BERRY, but REDhot and hotPINK come with some pretty special technological benefits to keep your feet comfy in the cold. Both REDhot and hotPINK feature Outlast® Adaptive Comfort® to absorb, store and release warmth when your feet need it. They also both have a light-but-durable, insulating foil under the forefoot to deflect cold away from your toes, plus an open-cell thermal layer to trap warmth and add protection against the cold.

Sure, but it’s not recommended. The repetitive movement from running may wear the Thermofoil layer prematurely, diminishing its insulating properties.

Any shoe or boot with a removable full-length factory insole.

The Custom GREEN insoles have more shape under the foot. The Custom GREEN features a cork horseshoe for greater fit and support. The insoles are heated and then molded to your foot using Superfeet’s patented Bio-Vac system. The result is a truly personalized fit to the specific shape of your foot.

By comparison, the off-the-shelf GREEN insoles also offer biomechanical support and superior comfort, but without the same level of personalization.

Yes, there are situations where you may use the Custom BLACK in skates, however they are not the first choice of application. Often times the Custom BLACK is too wide in the mid-foot area to fit properly into the skate. The YELLOW insoles or Custom GREY will accommodate the skate much better.

The Custom GREY insoles are designed to fit the narrow heel and midfoot of hockey and figure skates. Featuring a heel-to-toe profile that can help stabilize your foot and increase power transfer between your foot and the skate, the Custom GREY exactly match the elevated heel of the boot. The BLACK, BLUE, and GREEN insoles were designed for wider footwear with less heel-to-toe differential.

FOOT HEALTH BENEFITS:

Yes, in most, but not all cases. The deep heel cup will hold more of the fat pad under the heel bone for improved cushion and comfort.

Yes. By helping stabilize the foot, Superfeet insoles can help to reduce foot elongation and improve the fit inside your footwear.

Yes it can, but not all cases. The Superfeet insoles will help stabilize the foot. This will help reduce some of the stress on the plantar fascia.

No. Why? Because pronation is the body’s natural way of absorbing shock. During pronation, the foot expands as it absorbs your body weight and adapts to the surface underneath. Because of the hard, flat surfaces we walk on, our feet tend to stay in a pronated position too long during the gait cycle.

Our merinoWHITE insoles have approximately the same support as our BLUE product. The two products are built on the same stabilizer cap with the same shape, but the merinoWHITE features a merino wool top cover, which adds a bit more volume (making it slightly thicker than the BLUE).

Our merinoGREY insoles offer the same support as the GREEN. The two products are built on the same stabilizer cap with the same deep heel cup, but the merinoGREY features a merino wool top cover, which adds a bit more volume (making it slightly thicker than the GREEN, and making the heel cup slightly shallower).

CLEANING CARE:

Hand wash your Superfeet with mild soap in lukewarm water. Use an old toothbrush with soft bristles if needed. Rinse well, remove excess water with a soft towel, and allow to air dry – but not near a heat source, like a vent. DO NOT MACHINE WASH OR DRY – the results aren’t pretty.

Hand wash your DELUX with mild soap in lukewarm water. Use an old toothbrush with soft bristles if needed. Rinse well, remove excess water with a soft towel, and allow to air dry – but not near a heat source, like a vent. DO NOT MACHINE WASH OR DRY.

Washing the merinoGREY or merinoWHITE is different than washing any other Superfeet insole. Heat, agitation and detergent should NOT be used! First, clap the insole against your hand to remove loose dirt and debris. Clean with cool water and mild soap. Use your fingers to pat out dirt. Blot dry with a paper towel and let dry overnight away from a heat source or until completely dry. DO NOT put your Superfeet insoles in the dryer – the result isn’t pretty.

Clean your REDhot or hotPINK products with a mild soap or detergent. Use your fingers to pat out dirt. Blot dry with a towel and let air dry away from a heat source. DO NOT put your Superfeet insoles in the dryer – the result isn’t pretty.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

The Superfeet insole needs to move independently inside your footwear. The squeak is often caused by the shift of the insole as it works with the motion of your foot. If the Superfeet insoles are new, give them two weeks to mould to your feet and the sound should dissipate.

If the squeak is still there, check to make sure that the Superfeet insole is trimmed correctly. It’s pretty easy to tell if the insole is too long. First remove the Superfeet from the footwear. If you see creases at the toe or sides of the insole, then it’s likely too long. Slightly trim the edge of the insole, approximately the width of a nickel (1-2mm) and then replace the insole in the footwear.

If the squeak persists after trimming, apply some talc or baby powder inside the footwear under the insole and on the bottom of the stabiliser cap.

These products contain Outlast® Adaptive Comfort®, which helps regulate the temperature in your boot. The Outlast is remarkably effective.

If your feet are sweaty, try a different pair of socks. The sock material may be interfering with the Outlast’s thermoregulating properties.
If you enjoy the support of your REDhot or hotPINK insoles, you could also try our ORANGE or BERRY.

The merino wool top cover should naturally help prevent your feet from becoming sweaty. The wool fibers’ thermoregulating properties wick away moisture and heat to keep your foot cool and comfortable when they’re warm.

If your feet are sweaty, try a different pair of socks. The sock material may be interfering with the merino’s thermoregulating properties.

There are several things you can do to help keep your Superfeet fresh:

  • Remove the Superfeet insoles from your shoes every night to let the shoes and Superfeet insoles air out.
  • Do not wear the same pair of shoes three days in a row.
  • Try different brands of socks or nylons.
  • Apply a teaspoon of baby powder under and on top of the insole in the shoe.
  • Apply some scented hand or body lotion to your feet.
  • Try soaking your feet in warm water and Epsom salts for about 20 minutes, once or twice a week.
  • Clean the Superfeet insoles on a regular basis (twice a week).

MATERIALS:

Yes. All of our insoles are vegan, except for the insoles with merino wool top covers. We recycle merino noils – wool fibers too short to be used in fabrics – to create our felted top covers.

Our merinoWHITE insoles will fit in Gore-Tex lined boots or shoes, but we don’t recommend this combination. The ridge on the bottom of the stabilizer cap can indent the inner liner and rub through the waterproof barrier, compromising its integrity. Although this is typically just an aesthetic problem it may cause the footwear to leak if submerged. If you feel the merinoWHITE insole is still the best option, a thin protective lining or volume reducer may be placed between the insole and the inner liner of the boot or shoe. Our Orange, Berry or Green insoles are very waterproof liner friendly. When wearing any of our insoles in footwear with a waterproof liner, it is important to inspect the boots or shoes regularly. Make sure the contact point between the insole and shoe is free of gravel, rocks or sand to avoid any premature wear.
